Finally a wedding venue right on Druridge Bay!
Well since opening Calico Barn at Druridge Bay last Summer it’s been a bit of a whirlwind journey as we take our farm diversification plans one step further. Late last year we applied to become a licenced wedding venue and we now have the approval from Northumberland County Council. We had our own wedding reception at Calico Barn in 2012 and since then it has been in the back of my mind to start doing weddings on the farm and following the full refurbishment of the barn last year it was perfect timing.
Getting married is a very personal experience and what we wanted to offer was a blank canvas for couples to stamp their own mark, at The Barn on The Bay you get access to a number of areas of our farm on an exclusive basis so you can dress and decorate them how you want. We’re a DIY* style venue where you have complete control over your suppliers and that means you get access for the whole weekend from Friday lunchtime to Monday morning. We don’t rush you, we know that your wedding isn’t just about the Saturday but there is the build up on Friday and the wind down on Sunday. We can leave the bar open on Sunday and even organise a beach barbeque so that you can chill with your friends after the big day.
As well as the Barn you get access to the adjacent paddock that you can dress with bales and fire pits for guests to sit around, or have lawn games, the hard standing in front of the barn is ideal if you are planning a marquee, or if you are bringing a quirky tent or tipi like the ones from The Unique Tent Company we have plenty of space to put it up on.
In the summer months we operate a small campsite in the dunes which is a short distance from the Barn and we give you complete access to the ‘Dunes’ area of the campsite which is a lovely flat area overlooking the Bay. It’s up to you what you do here, put up an additional tipi, ask us to pop up a bar, or just let your guests set up camp there.
We know it’s difficult to find accommodation in venues like ours so we’ve taken that problem away for you, and your guests will love that they don’t have expensive travel costs. The Barn sleeps 18 people in 5 bedrooms, we have a lovely cosy Shepherd’s Hut that is ideal for the Bride & Groom, and we have camping for up to 20 tents – all included in the price.
If you need additional accommodation or if guests don’t want to ‘rough it’ we also have a cosy cottage that sleeps 4 (this is ideal for the parents!) and we can pop up a glamping village of luxury Bell Tents with all bedding etc included, ready for guests to collapse into bed. If you need more camping space we can open up a second camping area by the sea. An additional fee applies for the Cottage, Glamping Village and additional camping area.
Interested? We’d love to meet you. We have an open weekend on 18/19 March 2017. You can book a show around at the open weekend or make an appointment at a time to suit you here. We look forward to meeting you!
*If DIY is a step too far for you, or you want to kick back and relax knowing that someone else is taking care of your day, we recommend Ruby Tuesday Events to co-ordinate your day, they have amazing style and come highly recommended.
