It was almost 5 years to the day that we had our own wedding reception at The Barn on The Bay so it was with great pleasure that we were able to host the reception of Shirley and Michael in June as our first offical wedding as a ‘proper venue’.
Shirley was the most lovely bride you could hope to meet, she was so chilled about the wedding and was all about it being about her friends and family as much as it was about herself and Michael.
They married earlier in the day at Holy Trinity Church, just up the road at Widdrington Village. The date was special to the couple as it was Shirley’s grandparent’s anniversary and they laid wreaths at the church after the ceremony.
Shirley and Michael were a brilliant couple to host and chose to have a very informal reception which suited the space perfectly. Instead of opting for a marquee or tipi they chose to use Calico Barn for their small gathering of around 50 guests. Suits were disposed of as soon as they got to the farm in favour of casual clothes. Luckily the weather was a scorcher and there was much fun had in the paddock.
The Old Dog and Duck, our favourite vintage horsebox bar, served drinks to hot guests and Shirley and her Mother organised their own buffet style food. Ally’s Gin & Elderflower cocktail and mocktails were very popular.
Later on the men gathered around the wood burning stove, despite the fact it was too hot to put it on, and even dressed ‘him’ with a tie! Other guests gathered around fire pits in the paddock using straw bales as seats.
The couple stayed in our Shepherd’s Hut and it came in very handy earlier in the evening for photos.
Their day was photographed by Anita Nicholson from Northumberland Coast & Country Weddings (See here for infomation about Anita’s services) and here are a few of the photos that she captured.[FinalTilesGallery id=’7′]
