Hello Wedding Barn!
We have a farm, wedding venue, accommodation barn, glamping, camping and space for marquees, tipis etc. But we were missing something… A big Wedding Barn!
When we opened our wedding venue earlier this year couples needed to hire in marquees, tipis etc for the outdoor space. And although we’ve been lucky enough so far with some cracking weather for our lovely couples this year we know that you need to have that back up plan in place.
Then it dawned on us that we have a huge barn that houses our cattle over the winter but stands empty in the summer months. Out came the pressure washer and in went some straw bales to decorate and get an idea of space. We opened the barn to wedding show around couples to guage their feedback and we’ve been blown away by the response!
Now I should say at this point that it’s not the type of polished stone barn that is becoming increasingly popular right now (although we do have one of those for smaller ceremonies). Ours is the large rustic type that you tend to find in the United States. We don’t try to hide the agricultural features in the barn and you get a fantastic mix of rustic wood and metal with straw bales as seating and reclaimed tables. We make use of pallets, old barn doors, whiskey barrels and cable drums to furnish it and have seat covers made from burlap and hessian.
It is what it is, unashamedly agricultural in nature, but if you like that sort of thing, you’ll love it!
It’s a huge space and we have filled it with straw bale sofas covered in blankets and we can bring in our vintage horsebox bar and decorate it with lanterns. We can lay it our in a number of ways to suit different sized weddings, you can hold your ceremony in there (or on our very own part of beach!) or have a ceilidh and hog roast.
While there is much work to do on the barn over the winter, such as huge doors to go in to open onto the courtyard and paddock, we were luck enough that lovely local wedding photographer Anita Nicholson from Northumberland Coast & Country Weddings came down and took some test photos of the barn while we were working on it. We loved the shots and can’t wait until spring when it will be finished and weddings are being held in there.
Thanks Anita for these lovely shots!
We hope this blog has been useful to you, if there is anything you would like advice on please email us at email@example.com and we’ll do our best to answer it.
