When we first opened The Barn on The Bay there was a need for couples to hire in a marquee, tipi or similar for larger weddings. Then it dawned on us that we had the perfect space already on the farm as an alternative to a marquee, The Big Barn, aka ‘The Cow Shed’.
Our cow shed is only required for 6 months of the year for livestock in the winter months when we bring the cows in from the fields and is just used for storage between May and October. It’s a fab space that measures approx 22 x 22 metres and is separated into areas that handily make up the bar, food area, chill out space, dance and eating areas as well as being able to host a ceremony.
Depending on the size of your celebrations we can adjust the layout of the barn so that whether you have 50 or 200 guests it seems the right size.
We’re doing a lot of work on the Barn over the winter months to get it ready for weddings from June 2018, including having huge barn doors made that will open the space out onto the courtyard and paddock as well as general repairs.
The style will be rustic agricultural; think straw bales, hessian and reclaimed wood tables and you’ll be on your way. We’re not disguising that this is a ‘Cow Shed’ but instead embracing it! We always started out with the idea that we were providing farm weddings on an actual working farm, so you will see sheep in the fields, chickens running loose and the occasional alpaca peering at you, but that’s what we’re about here.
In 2017 we did a mock layout of the space in the Barn and invited couples to come and give us their thoughts, we were delighted that 5 couples booked the barn then and there based on what they saw and we knew we were doing the right thing.
While it was open, the lovely Anita Nicholson from Northumberland Coast & Country Weddings, who had already shot a couple of weddings here and came down to test a new lens for her camera and has kindly shared the test shots below.
The Barn won’t be finished until May 18 but we hope that the images below will give you a feel for the place.
